Dave and Gail Liniger
The Linigers are the example of success in building a global real estate company. In 1973, Dave Liniger co-founded RE/MAX in Denver, Colorado. Now the company has grown to over 3,600 sales associates in 110 offices in Colorado, and more than 113,000 sales associates and 5,800 offices in 58 countries around the world.
Dave Liniger was born in Marian, Indiana in 1945. He attended the University of Indiana, joined the United States Air Force and served overseas. His interest in real estate began before he was shipped overseas; he had saved enough money from his three part-time jobs to buy a house at a very low price, fixed it up, painted it, landscaped it, and sold it for a $4,000 profit. He continued his experiments in real estate after he returned to the states and was stationed in Phoenix, Arizona. He and his military buddies purchased, fixed and sold houses for a profit. After working for both a 100 percent commission company and a traditional brokerage, he co-founded RE/MAX International, Inc. in Denver.
RE/MAX is an acronym for “real estate maximums”. The concept was to help agents maximize their earnings while receiving a variety of benefits and services. This model has attracted experienced, top-producing agents who lead the industry in individual sales and professional education.
Liniger is nationally recognized as an expert in time management, sales training, recruiting and motivation. He has been featured in Entrepreneur, Forbes, Fortune, Inc., Success and other leading publications. He is a recipient of the Special Achievement Award from the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS), the largest not-for-profit affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, and The Warren Bennis Award for Leadership Excellence from the Global Institute for Leadership Development. He was inducted into the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers (CRB) Hall of Leaders, the REBAC (ABR) Hall of Fame and the International Franchise Associations “Hall of Fame”.
Gail Liniger was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1945 and graduated with a Marketing degree from the University of Southern Illinois. Gail moved to Denver in 1971 and was the first employee to join RE/MAX; that same year she was promoted to Vice President. She became Executive Vice President in 1978 and was elected President in 1979. Dave and Gail were not married until 11 years after the company was founded. Their 1983 wedding was postponed. In October 1983, one week before the two were to be married, Gail was in a plane crash. She was hospitalized for months due to her injuries. She suffered a traumatic brain injury that left her paralyzed on the left side. Through Dave’s unwavering support and her time at Craig Rehabilitation Hospital, Gail made a miraculous recovery which inspires and motivates people both inside and outside the RE/MAX organization. The couple later married in 1984.
Along with the Linigers passion for real estate, their love of golf prompted them to transform their 222-acre ranch, originally intended to house about 100 Arabian horse, into a magnificent 18-hole golf club, designed by Jim Engh and named Sanctuary. Opening in 1997, Sanctuary is primarily used by charities to raise funds and has hosted over 23 charity golf tournaments, raising more than $28 million dollars.
The Linigers also co-founded The Wildlife Experience, a 100,000 square foot facility in southeast Denver which serves as a conservation and community center promoting understanding of the natural world and its conservation through art and education.
Dave and Gail are committed to the community and each other. They personally donate a considerable amount of money to numerous charities, causes and programs for children, the homeless and other privately selected organizations. The impact that the Linigers have made on Denver, real estate and the community will be felt for many years to come.
