David and Renie Gorsuch
David and Renie Gorsuch met as members of the 1960 U.S. Olympic Ski Team. They traveled the world, fell in love and got married. Soon after, they started a family and opened a small ski shop in Gunnison. Almost 50 years later, those ski shops have expanded to locations in Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone and Aspen and have helped define the ski industry.
This ski shop was known as Gorsuch Ltd. and had a reputation of whisking its customers back to another time and place. The store catalogue introduced millions of people around the nation to mountain living. The store was named Ski Retailer of the Year by Ski Industries of America in 1969 and again in 2003.
Bringing mountain elegance and a refined fashion sense to the slopes was no easy task, especially in the early days of the sport, but Gorsuch Ltd. soon became an ideal for fashion in the ski industry. The Gorsuches pride themselves on providing unique and finely crafted accessories for anyone’s outdoor needs and, since 1962, they have introduced generations of skiers to the beauty and magic that is skiing in Colorado. The Gorsuches’ success can be attributed to the family embracing both the sport of skiing and the mountain lifestyle.
The Gorsuches were some of the early leaders that helped establish Vail as a community and the world-class destination resort it has become. David and Renie brought passion and enthusiasm to their community by helping to build a hospital, Vail Mountain School and Ski Club Vail.
Both are renowned as top racers in the skiing community and have both been inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
David and Renie still enjoy following the annual Legends of Skiing and the American Ski Classic events. They can also be found retreating to Rivergate Ranch near Gunnison, Colorado. They enjoy spending time with their three children and six grandchildren. They have a love for their family and friends and a passion for skiing and a Colorado mountain life.
