Don Kortz
Don Kortz serves as chairman of the board of Cassidy Turley Colorado, the fourth largest commercial real estate firm in the country with offices throughout the United States, together with 72 international offices. He has been with the organization in excess of 40 years and has served as a consultant to major corporations, professional organizations and health institutions in their expansion, contraction and relocation needs.
A third-generation Colorado native, Kortz received his bachelor of business administration from Tulane University and his juris doctor from the University of Denver College of Law. He served as a Captain in the United States Army, stationed in Germany.
Kortz devotes much of his community service efforts to health related activities. The new Children’s Hospital Colorado opened during his term as chairman of the board. Kortz also served as chairman of the board of Rose Medical Center and chair of the Colorado Children’s Health Foundation and as a member of the boards of National Jewish Health and HealthONE. Kortz was appointed by Governor Owens to the Task Force on Child Welfare and by Governor Ritter to the Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care.
Kortz took a three-year leave of absence from Cassidy Turley to become the first president and CEO of the Rose Community Foundation created from the proceeds of the sale of Rose Medical Center.
Kortz is proud of his service as Chair of the Board of Colorado Concern, an alliance of top executives with a common interest in enhancing and protecting the Centennial State’s business climate. He is a past chair of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and has served or serves as a trustee or board member of the Denver Zoological Foundation, Mizel Museum, Judith Ann Griese Foundation, the Jewish Community Center, the University of Denver Institute for Interfaith Studies and the Anti-Defamation League. As a member of the Denver Board of Water Commissioners, Kortz addressed the need of water for the community.
In the for-profit sector, he has served as a director of Omnibanks, Commercial Assets, Asset Investors, Key Bank of Colorado, Merchant’s Mortgage of Colorado and currently is a Director of Steele Street Bank & Trust.
Don and his wife Mary Lou, a Colorado native and artist, have one daughter, Zoey.
