Jordon Perlmutter
Jordon Perlmutter was born in 1931. The only son and youngest of four children, he grew up on the west side of Denver. His parents, Abe and Dora Perlmutter, of blessed memory, were traditional orthodox Jews. Abe and Dora were Jordon’s most important role models.
Jordon attended West High School in Denver. At West High, he excelled in athletics and made all city in football and played basketball. His athletic ability enabled him to attend the University of Denver on a scholarship. His college education was cut short when he went into the U. S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.
Perlmutter co-founded Perl-Mack Enterprises in 1951 with his cousin, Sam Primack, and his brother-in-law, Bill Morrison joined the firm as a partner soon after. Perl-Mack Enterprises introduced Denver to the concept of the planned community by building the communities of Northglenn, Southglenn and Montbello. In its 32 year history, Perl-Mack Enterprises built and developed more than 22,000 single- and multi-family homes, three regional shopping centers (Northglenn Mall, Southglenn Mall and Southwest Plaza), outdoor centers, office buildings, industrial projects, parks, schools and community facilities. Perl-Mack Enterprises also took on the responsibility of managing and leasing all of its commercial properties. The company won numerous awards for homes and communities, including a number of accolades for Northglenn as the best-planned community in America by Life magazine and the National Association of Home Builders Journal.
In 1983, Perl-Mack Enterprises dissolved and Jordon Perlmutter and his oldest son Jay founded Jordon Perlmutter & Co. Later, son-in-law Shell D. Cook and son Jonathan joined the company. Since that time, Jordon Perlmutter & Co. has been involved in almost every aspect of real estate investment including development, leasing, property management, sales and acquisitions with a mission of maintaining a tradition of excellence in order to enhance communities and businesses in Denver and the surrounding area. Some of the projects Jordon Perlmutter & Co. has been involved with include Belleview Shores, Bowles Village Center, Chanson Plaza and Larkridge. Throughout his career, it is estimated that Jordon Perlmutter has been directly involved in the development of more than 5.5 million square feet of retail, office, multi-family and industrial projects. Perlmutter, his sons and son-in-law teamed up with the Witkin family and developed Buell Mansion, a 116-acre exclusive residential development in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado.
Perlmutter has been recognized for his vision and contributions to Colorado real estate development throughout his career. In 1964, he was selected Man of the Year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce of the City of Northglenn. In 1992, Perlmutter was named by the University of Denver as a Dean of Real Estate to exemplify one who helped set a precedent and guidance for the Colorado real estate community, followed in 1995 by becoming a Charter Member of the Burns Society of the Burns School of Real Estate and construction Management at the University of Denver and was named an Honorary Dean of the School in 2005.
Perlmutter’s commitment to the community has been unwavering throughout his career. Two of his most important contributions include the building and fundraising of more than $14 million for Beth Israel at Shalom Park, a long-term residential care facility for the elderly. Built in 1992, Shalom Park is considered to be one of the finest nursing homes in the country for meeting and exceeding the psychological, social, housing and medical needs of the residents. Perlmutter continues to raise money and sit on the board of Shalom Park, a project he started 25 years ago. The second is the 15 years that he spent as a Trustee of the University of Denver. In addition, Perlmutter has served on numerous boards of directors in the Denver area, including Rose Medical Center and the Anti- Defamation League Executive Committee.
Both Perlmutter and his wife, Essie, have been recipients of numerous awards including Rose Medical Center’s Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1987 and the Community Leadership Award from Beth Israel at Shalom Park in 1995.
Jordon married Essie Lou Goldberg in 1953. Essie and Jordon have four children and 12 grandchildren.
