Bill Reynolds
A Boulder native, Bill Reynolds attended high school in his hometown, where he was an active member of the student body. In addition to playing both football and golf, he was a competitive skier, named Student Body President, and played the lead role in multiple theatre productions. After graduating from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Business, he joined the U.S. Navy for two years, serving on active duty aboard the USS Bennington, an anti-submarine warfare support aircraft carrier. Reynolds’ experience in the Navy introduced him to new parts of the world and reinforced how unique and important our personal freedoms are in this country.
After a stint selling houses in Denver for Moore Realty, Reynolds founded W.W. Reynolds Companies in 1966, focusing on real estate development, leasing, and property management. His first development project was a 6,500-square-foot plumbing warehouse that was built in 1970, which he still owns to this day. Under his leadership, the company has developed more than three million square feet of commercial and residential property across Boulder, northern Colorado, and along the Front Range. Currently, the Reynolds properties in Downtown Boulder total 600,000 square feet.
Reynolds later established the W.W. Reynolds Foundation, where he serves as the Chairman of the Board and President. The Foundation’s vision is to enhance educational opportunities and empower youngsters to pursue a life of meaning through supporting organizations and educators who advance education that focuses on business and financial literacy. Reynolds is hands-on in identifying and supporting those organizations that create lasting value for young people.
Reynolds has served his community as a member of the Board of Directors for the Boulder Chamber, the Boulder YMCA, and the Board of Trustees for the Boulder Community Hospital Foundation. He was a founding member of the CU Real Estate Center and served as both their president and the first president of the University of Colorado Real Estate Foundation. Reynolds also served as vice-chair of Patty Limerick’s Center of the American West and remains on the Board of Directors. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Neenan Companies and the Newton Running Company. Reynolds has been an active Urban Land Institute member since 1977. He and the W.W. Reynolds Companies have been honored twice as NAIOP’s (now the Commercial Real Estate Development Association) Colorado Chapter Developer of the Year, and most recently, Reynolds was honored with NAIOP’s Lifetime Achievement President’s Award.
Reynolds married his wife Jane in 1968. They currently reside in Boulder and together have three children and five grandchildren. He is the de facto chairman of the “Henpeckkers”, a group of self-described “old dudes” who meet regularly to discuss topics they are currently interested in.
