Bob Johnston
Bob Johnston came to southeastern Colorado in search of cheap land and got so much more. After moving to Colorado, Johnston bought the Red Top Ranch in 1945. Over the years, the ranch grew to over 103,000 acres and its reach spanned three counties. In the 1980s, Johnston sold the ranch but remained actively involved in the cattle industry.
Throughout his entire career, Johnston remained very active within his community. In fact, after discovering that some animals at the Pueblo Zoo had died from overexposure, he personally created shelters for them. He also established a holding company, which developed into eight banks, to meet local banking needs in his community.
