Curtis Fentress
It’s impossible to walk the streets of Denver and not witness the creativity and vision of Curtis Fentress. An architect and business leader, Fentress has graced our city with such structures as the Colorado Convention Center, Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center, Empower Field, and Denver International Airport, among others. While his business is headquartered in Denver, the work of Fentress Architects extends far beyond state lines to include notable public architecture such as the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Washington, D.C., the Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, the Arraya Tower in Kuwait City, and many other notable international designs. Fentress Architects has designed $27 billion of architectural projects worldwide, which are visited by 350 million people each year.
Born in Greensboro, NC, Fentress began his architectural path as a young boy playing in the sandbox near the two-room cabin where he grew up. He discovered a passion for design in high school and graduated with honors from North Carolina State University College of Design. He began his career in New York and established his design studio in Denver in 1980. Today, Fentress Architects has five studios and a team of 150 professionals.
Fentress was honored in 2010 by the American Institute of Architects with the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest award for public architecture, which recognized Fentress for “a portfolio of accomplishments that evidences great depth while making a significant contribution to the quality of public architecture.”
With an emphasis on sustainable design, most of the licensed architects at Fentress Architects are LEED-accredited professionals. The firm has been ranked among the Top 25 Green Design Firms by Engineering News-Record magazine, a leading publication in the design and construction industry.
