Don Kortz
A third-generation Colorado native, Don Kortz received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Tulane University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law. He served as a Captain in the United States Army, stationed in Germany.
Kortz devoted much of his community service efforts to health-related activities. The new Children’s Hospital Colorado opened during his term as board chairman. Kortz also served as chairman of the board of Rose Medical Center, chair of the Colorado Children’s Health Foundation, and was a member of the National Jewish Health and HealthONE boards. Kortz was appointed by Governor Owens to the Task Force on Child Welfare and by Governor Ritter to the Blue Ribbon Commission for Health Care.
Kortz took a three-year leave of absence from Cassidy Turley to become the first president and CEO of the Rose Community Foundation, created from the proceeds of the sale of Rose Medical Center.
Kortz was proud of his service as Chair of the Board of Colorado Concern, an alliance of top executives with a common interest in enhancing and protecting the Centennial State’s business climate. He was a past chair of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and served as a trustee or board member of the Denver Zoological Foundation, Mizel Museum, Judith Ann Griese Foundation, the Jewish Community Center, the University of Denver Institute for Interfaith Studies, and the Anti-Defamation League. As a Denver Board of Water Commissioners member, Kortz addressed the need for water for the community.
In the for-profit sector, he served as a director of Omnibanks, Commercial Assets, Asset Investors, Key Bank of Colorado, Merchant’s Mortgage of Colorado, and was a Director of Steele Street Bank & Trust.
