Ed McVaney was the co-founder and past CEO of JD Edwards Corporation, an Enterprise Resource Planning software company. Originally from Omaha, NE, In 1977, McVaney realized his love for computers while attending school at Iowa State Teacher’s College (University of Northern Iowa). He later went on to receive a post-graduate education and ended up in the engineering business in New York City. It was only seven years after that McVaney found himself in Denver, along with Jack Thompson and Dan Gregory, creating JD Edwards. After its inception JD grew until finally, 20 years later, the company was doing so well that McVaney and his partners decided to take the company public.
JD Edwards may define McVaney’s career but by no means was that his sole accomplishment. As someone who believed fervently in business and the power of education, McVaney donated millions to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and founded the JD Edwards Honors Program.
