Frank H. Ricketson, Jr.
Frank H. Ricketson, Jr. is credited with saving the movie industry during the Great Depression. In the 1920s. Ricketson brought popcorn to movie theaters as well as "bank night", which gave citizens not only a chance to win money but to justify going to the movies at that time.
As a well-connected man within the movie industry, Ricketson made sure to invest in the talent and community of Denver. It wasn't uncommon for him to exchange ideas with local aspiring writers or actors/actresses. He also made sure to bring talent and attention to Denver through the Central City Opera. For years, Ricketson was the Chairman of the Opera Association.
Even after death, Ricketson kept on giving back to the Denver community. In his will, he left generous donations to the Denver Museum of Natural History and the University of Denver College of Law. In fact, the entire DU complex is dedicated to him.
