Henry M. Porter
Born in 1838, Porter was destined to be a part of Colorado's history. When he came to Denver in 1862, people were losing faith in the future of the city. In the hopes of making Denver into a major player among cities, Porter built telegraph and railroad lines to connect Denver to the East Coast. His hopes were completed and both lines started the growth of the city.
Another large contribution that Porter made was to what is now known as Porter Memorial Hospital, now Porter Adventist Hospital. After a positive hospital experience in San Diego where Porter fell ill, he felt the need to become involved and contributed $1 million to the hospital. In honor of his contributions, the hospital is rightly named after him.
