Russell T. Tutt
Russell T. Tutt was a huge behind-the-scenes force in the Colorado economy. After completing high school in Colorado Springs, Tutt went to Princeton and received his bachelor's degree in engineering. Due to his extreme interest in business, he moved away from his degree and went to work on Wall Street until 1940 when he was called to service. During his time abroad, Tutt became a ranked major, and when he returned home, a bronze star accompanied him.
After returning from war, Tutt decided to move to Garden City, KS to follow the family tradition by working for Penrose at the El Pomar Foundation. In his five years at the Garden City location, Tutt was able to turn around El Pomar and fight off financial troubles. He then decided to return home to Colorado Springs and work for the Broadmoor, another Penrose institution in which his family was involved for years. During his time at both institutions, he brought the El Pomar Foundation to over $450 million and made the Broadmoor what it is today.
